Unique Engagement Photos in Cemetery

Engagement photos are the perfect way to get to know your wedding photographer, but it doesn’t always work out that you can set up a session well in advance of your wedding. That’s especially true for people having destination weddings. My clients Taylor and Michael opted to have a portrait session the day before their wedding. That way they could get comfortable having my camera around, and I could learn what works best for them when it comes to getting their photos taken. The results are great inspiration for unique engagement photos!

Unique Engagement Photos

You might not guess from these images, but Michael and Taylor had a really colorful wedding. We decided to use this portrait session as a chance to do something a little moodier and equally creative. New Orleans is known for its epic mausoleums, and I was stoked when Michael and Taylor approached me with this idea!

Even though I hadn’t documented unique engagement photos like this in New Orleans, this session is similar to one that I did in Pittsburgh. You can check out that session at Allegheny Cemetery here!

Moody Photos at Lake Lawn

For Taylor and Michael’s session, we headed to Lake Lawn. This cemetery tends to attract fewer tourists, so it’s a great spot for unique engagement photos. Big, dark palmettos grow around the stone mausoleums. We even got some cool cloud cover to add to the moodiness of the setting.

I love this set of images because I got really creative with the composition while still highlighting Taylor and Michael’s relationship. Even when I was playing with perspective and the architecture, you can see how much fun they have together. I’m so glad we had this chance to get to know each other before their wedding day!
