Colorful French Quarter Wedding at the Hermann Grima House

Hermann Grima House is a beautiful New Orleans wedding venue. It’s a museum dedicated to nineteenth century architecture and history. The enchanting courtyard was perfect for Alix and Quentin’s colorful spring wedding. They treated their guests to some of the most unique experiences the French Quarter has to offer.

A Wedding at Hermann Grima House

Hermann Grima House is a carefully preserved example of Federal style architecture built in 1831. The tall brick house includes classic French Quarter details, including wrought iron balconies and tall wooden shutters painted French blue. Your wedding ceremony will feel very New Orleans.

Most wedding ceremonies take place in the courtyard. Rose bushes and meticulously pruned shrubs line the brick space. It’s enclosed by the house, brick walls, and a smaller building which housed the people enslaved by the Hermann and Grima families. Antique French doors form the backdrop for ceremonies.

Hermann Grima House does a good job of preserving the history of everyone who lived there. The interiors include period furniture, decorative arts, and artifacts from daily life. You can arrange group tours for your guests on your wedding weekend if you want to give them a deeper look into the city’s history.

If you’re looking for a venue that balances the feeling of having a world of your own with easy access to the French Quarter, Hermann Grima House is a good choice. It’s located on St. Louis Street between Bourbon and Dauphine. You’re surrounded by hotels, bars, restaurants, and clubs. The possibilities for your reception and afterparty are endless.

A May Wedding with a Vibrant Spring Palette

Alix and Quentin are my kind of people. They’re sweet, kind, and true to themselves. On their wedding day, you could feel how much they loved each other. Their gratitude overflowed throughout the day.

For their May wedding, they chose bright shades of pink and orange. These hues showed up in their bridesmaids dresses, florals, and decor. Pink and orange are a favorite color combination of mine, so I was stoked to see this aesthetic in action!

On the day that Alix and Quentin had their wedding at Hermann Grima House, it was unexpectedly roasting hot. Thankfully, we pivoted from our original plans for portraits and took most of them in the courtyard of the Ritz-Carlton. Then we headed into the French Quarter for a few more photos.

Of all the New Orleans wedding venues I’ve photographed, Hermann Grima House reminded me most of The Historic BK House. This venue is also a French Quarter house museum with a courtyard. You can check out a Southern Gothic-inspired BK House wedding here.

Fun French Quarter Wedding Moments

Alix and Quentin gave their wedding guests a very New Orleans experience! After their ceremony at Hermann Grima House, everyone headed to Broussard’s. Technically, Broussard’s is connected to Hermann Grima House by a gate, making it an easy transition from one spot to the next. Alix and Quentin took the opportunity to lead their guests in a parade around the block instead.

The Knockaz Brass Band joined them for the second line. Their guests really got into it! They danced through the French Quarter with their handkerchiefs in the air. Wedding second lines are so fun because people always stop to cheer on the newlyweds.

At the reception, everyone got to experience more New Orleans magic with Tarot readings and live music. Some guests enjoyed readings in a side room at Broussard’s while everyone else hit the dance floor. The night was pure magic!
