Fun Destination Engagement Photos in the New Orleans French Quarter
Planning a romantic trip to New Orleans with your partner? It’s the perfect opportunity to plan destination engagement photos! When Conor and Alex planned their summer vacation in the city, they reached out to book engagement photos. I was stoked! Aside from bonding over our shared hometown of Pittsburgh, they quickly felt like familiar friends. I love getting to know people as we explore the colorful streets of the French Quarter. You can see just how much fun we had in these joyful engagement photos.
Destination Engagement Photos in New Orleans
For Conor and Alex’s destination engagement photos, we started in the French Quarter. The French Quarter is different from the historic districts in a lot of American cities because it’s so colorful. Vibrant blues, pinks, yellows, and oranges bring life to every block. The cast iron balconies with their trailing plants add to the magic.
The French Quarter attracts a lot of tourists and locals with its bars, clubs, restaurants, and galleries. It’s possible to find quiet times so that your photos aren’t full of people, though. Head there mid-week in the morning or late afternoon, and you’ll be able to get quiet streets with great light. Conor and Alex met up with me in the late afternoon. The light is amazing at that time of day!
With the streets on the quieter side, Conor and Alex could relax into their destination engagement photo experience. I love getting to know my clients. It’s partly because I’m a people person, but it’s also because it’s easier to document genuine joy when people are comfortable. You can see from these photos that Conor and Alex feel at ease and happy together. The whole session was non-stop laughter and sweet moments.
Fun Exploring the French Quarter
Like I said before, by the time we were done taking these destination engagement photos, Conor and Alex felt like old friends. We had such a blast together! It’s impossible to get bored exploring the French Quarter.
Conor and Alex were down to incorporate the vibrant French Quarter colors and historic architecture into their engagement photos. We chose a lot of backdrops in hues of orange, yellow, and blue. Towards the end of our time in the French Quarter, we even found an awesome set of elaborate ironwork doors. Conor and Alex sat on the stoop in front, and we took some sweet photos of them cuddled up.
When it comes to choosing clothes for a French Quarter engagement session, you can go lots of different ways. Choose something that’s comfortable and authentic to your style. Conor and Alex chose neutral colors that stood out well against the bright backdrops of the French Quarter.
I’ve photographed so many couples in the French Quarter. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, you’ll find something to love in this charming neighborhood. Here are a few other engagement sessions that I documented in the French Quarter:
Your Destination Engagement Photos in New Orleans
We ended this destination engagement session in New Orleans’ City Park. City Park is a nice spot if you want some dreamy oaks and Spanish moss in some of your photos. Conor, Alex, and I got there at golden hour. The sun shone low through the tree branches, giving everything a gorgeous glow.
For a few photos, I had Conor and Alex climb the stone bridge over the water. It’s such a romantic spot! The photo included in this blog post has some serious swamp magic. Very different from the French Quarter cottages!
City Park makes a cool contrast to the French Quarter for this session. The colors are much earthier. Even though these photos are colorful, they’re more peaceful than what you tend to get in the French Quarter.
New Orleans is full of amazing neighborhoods for destination engagement photos. Other places you might consider taking engagement photos include:
A boutique hotel like The Chloe
The Garden District
